It is seriously dangerous to live with excessive fat around the midsection. There is a noticeable hindrance of mobility caused by wearing the proverbial spare tire around the waist. Still, it is seen every day that far too many people have much excess belly fat.

Visceral fat is the fat that accumulates around abdominal organs. Purpose driven diet is needed to eliminate visceral fat. Sufficient protein intake is a key component of blasting visceral fat. This amounts to having two drinks per day. However, most people realize that drinking in moderation is not too common. Protein deficiency is a major cause of belly fat. Lack of sleep doesn’t only rob you of energy and focus. It also contributes to the bulge around the middle.

Cortisol is a hormone that is commonly referred to as the stress hormone. During times of high tension, cortical levels are elevated. This causes higher blood pressure. Insulin levels go up and this results in low blood sugar. Low blood sugar causes cravings for sweets and sugary drinks. Visceral fat puts a person at risk of heart disease, colorectal cancer, dementia, high blood pressure, insulin resistance and diabetes.

One of the health risks of belly fat in men, most widespread, is sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder in which breathing, repeatedly stops and starts. The short stops in breathing can happen as much as 400 times, during a night. Worst of all, a person can die from sleep apnea. Weight loss or surgery are possible cures for the problem. Surgery involves removing obstructive tissue from the airway. Furthermore, the surgery can have side effects. When I weighed in excess of 365 pounds, I would wake up, during the night, gasping for breath. Sitting up on the side of the bed regaining my breath was alarming. Now, being nearly 50 pounds lighter, I breathe just fine and get much better sleep! I want to add that women face many of these visceral fat issues, with the onset of menopause.
